I got my first portable stereo in 6th grade. I don't remember how; my parents must have given it to me. It was a cassette player with detachable speakers, though not really a boom box. It did not come with headphones, and I did not have any. And it was red. I brought it to school, unaware that anyone there who had a portable stereo probably had a Walkman, and I played the only cassette we had in the house, which belonged to my dad. It was The Best of Bread. It had one song on it I actually liked, called Mother Freedom, which I played repeatedly/exclusively. No one at that school liked me, already, but this couldn't have helped. This was also the year my art teacher -- who I already should have understood didn't like me -- agreed to let me play my new musical discovery in class, on the classroom cassette player: Stairway to Heaven. Turns out the other kids had already heard of the song.

Unrelated: nice work on the Dragon's Dogma thing.

First, thanks! Second, I kind of like Bread? I mean, a few select songs.

I bet even though the other kids already recognized Stairway to Heaven, they let the song finish ... and I bet, in the end, that served to raise your profile, fam.
